Sept 23 - 27
Making Pre-K friendship mix was fun to do and eat in pairs, check out our pics. We read How Full is Your Bucket to reinforce just how important it is to be kind to our friends and others. Chapel talked about creating the world starting with dark and light then day and night. Ms. Linda had us make music with a variety of instruments, ask us about the guiro or the cabasa Letter of the week Aa had us learning two new songs, The Apple Song and The Aa Song. Consequently we ate apples at snack daily comparing differently kinds and made applesauce on Friday after we heard about Johnny Appleseed. We also had some great centers focusing on apple orchard math, ant art, a class autumn tree and a find the hidden apple game in the kitchen. We did see signs of autumn as we collected and compared leaf colors and shapes. Gym had us moving up and down with scooters, balance domes and hopping/running drills. Finally, science introduced the measurement terms of shorter and longer and how to compare various items to use those words correctly, how cool.
Visiting all the specials we began with Ms. Linda's music and sang about Pete the Cat's rockin' shoes (see clip below). Chapel was next with the wonderful message of Jesus blessses the children and our cross art is beautiful in our room to remind us of His love. Library followed as we checked out our first week's books after Mrs, McDonnell read A Splendid Friend Indeed. Gym was next as we focused on friendship further playing partner games, ask us. Finally we had STEM centers on Friday where all of Pre-K worked in small groups to interact with each other on various building sets and one position vocabulary game, more fun than you think. We also enjoyed making partner art with fingerpaint, check out the hallway bulletin board. We made 2 batches of fresh playdough and voted on colors in groups, blue and red/pink won. Another great highlight was our early reader (At School) we illustrated and read to the 2s, see pics below, it was special.
Open House seems like more than a week away! We jumped right into school Tuesday and got to know our classroom space real well and we're learning our classmates names and the new routines (1-2-3). We're catching on quick with songs and prayers and getting together with the other Pre-K class often for that big group feel. We learned more than we realized in centers as we painted, played in the rice table and kitchen and began identifying letters, wow! We "drove" around the school to see all the other rooms in our school, "it's big" said one student." We also bonded further with our class by saying what our favorite thing was inspired from the story Owen then we continued the sharing by playing "my favorites dice game". We finished the week strong with some great science centers on Friday with Mrs. Falconio's class, ask us about it.
Happy Birthday Hannah, you're officially a handful (5) and we loved the Nerd candies
