School is almost in session! Enjoy the Labor Day weekend and we hope to see you at the Popsicles and Playground social for parents and children on the playground on Wednesday September 5th @ 10:30-noon.
Welcome to UDCNS, we hope the Open House helped start off the school year with a smile. Mrs. Froehlich and I are excited to get the kids ready for school, our first BigDay theme. We talked about what's in our Pre-K room, actually "read" the room noting the centers signs along with other commonly viewed words (ps, we read the word September!!). We toured the school on our imaginary school buses stopping at all the key places we will go this year. There were high-fives to ourselves as we began to learn our morning routine along with noticing the daily schedule, jobs, and even centers, it's fun to be big. We have started writing our names daily and will have that down in no time with practice for sure. We read a great story titled Be Who You Are so check out the author's video to hear more. Here's to a great first few days, Pre-K is special.
We connected immediately with the friendship theme playing a "get-to-know-you" dice game, decorating and cutting out our person to place on the Pre-K community bulletin board (up the hall and ramp towards Mrs. Walker and Mrs. Falconio). We played "What Time is it Mr. Fox?" in gym class along with Friendship Island to get to learn names. We also tied snack to friends. We each brought an "ingredient", combined it in a big bowl and stirred making an original snack mix only OUR class could make. We snuck in some math skills as we graphed our likes and counted which ingredient has the most likes. At library, Mrs. Condeelis read Red: a crayon's story At music Ms. Linda had us singing "I am Me" along with shaking some shakers to show our energy. At chapel we learned that worshiping God just means singing, praying and reading the bible and we do ALL that. Check out our prayers for our friends, see our colorful crosses we designed on our board and try to sing along to this worship song along with Pre-K tunes!
We packed a lot into this week starting off with Creation. We started the artwork for our rhyming books with day and night pics then sky, you can't rush creation! We sang the Hippo Song at music and will be singing it often to reinforce creation. We began our letter of the week focus with Aa. We counted, sorted, ate and even spelled the word apple (hint: Bingo tune). Additionally we sang Scholastic's Aa song to anyone who would listen and kept being awesome all week! These actions tied into our Big Day theme of learning together and getting along with our friends. Mrs. Condeelis focused on good library skills with Read It Don't Eat It! and Duncan the Story Dragon . We also celebrated the beginning of fall aka Autumn with My Autumn book and created art booklets of our own. and enjoyed searching for acorns on the played to also sort and count. We introduced the math vocabulary "shorter" and "longer" to establish a measurement idea that we'll add to later.
