What a fun filled week we had mixing up our clothes, wearing silly socks or hats or hair and pajamas. We showed love and more by making valentines that will go to those served at Chosen 300 next week (see pic with Ms. Livvy). We reviewed our fill-a-bucket concept, showing love and concern for all by reading Bucket Filling A-Z and making mini-bucket art to display at home bring the good work home! Our animal unit finished as we talked about the lifecycle of animals and the different names they may have for a baby and an adult, ask us to name a few. We had Mr. Don the storyteller come and give a great winter story (see "snow" pic below) that reminds us to show our inner beauty to all even in the cold dark winter. We talked about the terms "before" "during" and "after" all week and drew some pics to review this time concept. Reviewing K-M with kicks, lunges and marching in gym was fun along with alphabet and the sound box game. Chapel talked about Zacchaeus and how he changed to followed Jesus, like a good bucket filler so things tied together nicely.
In 4 days we learned a lot! We discussed Dr. King's message of being peaceful and working things out with words not hands. Letter Mm brought magnets, mitten number matching, and marshmallow muffins (yummy) for snack along with the funny story of A Chocolate Moose For Dinner. Mrs. McDonnell read What Do Insects Do? to have us explore creepy crawly bugs. Also, we loved making our own bugs with playdough and other fuzzy pieces and we used magnifiers to look at them closely.
Where do animals live? We identified some new vocabulary such as lodge, den, and swamp and matched the animal to its home on a mural. We tied this talk into our letter work as we drew animal pics inspired from the story Bear Snores On. Letter Ll brought the lollipop song and great 3-D art too along with the ladybug fingerplay. We built with legos, ate licorice, created a lovely line mural, hunted for letters in words and played Is your Mama a llama? at gym. At chapel we heard how Jesus got baptized by his cousin John and how special that was."Baptizing" our classroom toys was fun and reminded us how nice it is to be clean. Music brought "plate" skating and other winter songs even though the weather was mild most of the week. We loved playing alphabet bingo for letter identification and sound.
Kk had us kicking and learning karate moves in gym. We loved making kangaroos from the letter K, check our our class bulletin board sometime. We welcomed Ms. Linda back as we tried strumming a guitar. We created unique wisemen art as we wrapped up the Christmas story in chapel. We introduced our next Big Day unit titled Amazing Animals and identified the strongest, tallest and fastest just for fun. Our science connected to that theme as we count, build, examine, sort, draw and talk about animals in a hands on way.
Welcome back to a short but happy week as we focused on 2020. We talked about the calendar, read the word January, wrote the new year number and talked about what we'd like to do in the new year, check the hallway.
We had a great Pre-K gym class using a snow theme (pretend) to move our toros on scooters, throw snowballs and walk in deep snow! We heard the story Side by Side and thoroughly enjoyed our STEM lab exploring volume, magnets, sink/float, number sequencing, motion and building with various materials, it's great partner work with the other Pre-K and the learning is ALL hands on!
Special note: BIG NEWS for Penny, she's going to be a big sister!
